A woman remains in hospital with serious injuries sustained after a man broke into her Campbell River home and attacked her with a weapon.

RCMP were called to a home on Robron Road just before 1 a.m. on Monday following reports of a disturbance.

Officers arrived on scene and could hear a woman screaming and noticed that the entrance of the residence had been damaged.

Once inside the home, they located a man who was immediately arrested.

They also found a woman suffering from serious wounds inflicted by a weapon.

Police did not elaborate on what sort of weapon was allegedly used in the attack.

The woman was taken by BC Ambulance to hospital for treatment and was then taken to another hospital to receive care for her injuries.

A 42-year old male, who is on conditions not to be at the residence where the assault took place, is currently in custody and facing numerous charges.

Police say it was not a random event.

The investigation continues.
