Nanaimo RCMP say a woman was airlifted to a Victoria hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck in a crosswalk Monday.
According to police, the 24-year-old woman was hit by a vehicle at around 8:40 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the Albion Street and Bruce Avenue intersection.
Police say they spoke with witnesses and the driver of the vehicle, which was a newer model Dodge Aries. The driver remained on scene following the collision.
Based on the statements, police say it appears the 31-year-old female driver was going south along Bruce Avenue at the time of the crash. The roads were slick and there was a glare on the road, according to police. Officers also said the crosswalk is not lit and the pedestrian was wearing non-reflective clothing.
Police say earbud headphones, believed to be the pedestrian’s, were found at the scene.
The Dodge Aries was seized by police and will undergo a mechanical inspection. The road was closed for several hours during the investigation. Police say the investigation into the crash is continuing.
