Metchosin and Langford fire crews are both assisting the hiker. Crews reached the woman at around 11 a.m. and used an ATV to bring her down the mountain.

It took a couple of hours to bring the woman down to an ambulance on Finlayson Arm Road due to the cold and slippery conditions. However, Assistant Langford Fire Chief Lance Caven says most rescues are never quick.

“These rescues do take a little bit of time to get into where the patients are and assess the situation and then get the manpower to get into where we need to be to get the patient out,” said Caven.

No other injuries were reported but officials want to remind hikers to be extra cautious in these winter conditions and always come prepared.

“Have some change of clothes, some water for sure, maybe something to snack on in case you run into trouble and make sure you have a cellphone with you. But, I think the biggest thing to remember is to let somebody know where you are going so if you don’t return, somebody knows where you are and can send out help to come get you,” said Caven.
