The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) is investigating after a woman was injured during an arrest in Langford on Wednesday.

West Shore RCMP said just after 9 p.m. on Dec. 11, a taxi driver went to the West Shore RCMP detachment to report that he had a passenger who was refusing or unable to pay.

West Shore RCMP officers spoke with the taxi driver and his female passenger. Police said the woman was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and fraud.

The woman allegedly resisted attempts to take her into custody. She was injured during the arrest and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

West Shore RCMP notified IIO to determine what role, if any, officers’ actions or inaction may have played into the injury suffered by the female. According to the IIO, the woman sustained a fracture.

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
