A woman is being held for medical treatment after she got into a helicopter then left it to go into the water off Ogden Point Sunday night.

Victoria police were called to a heliport off Dallas Road just after 9 p.m. after on-site security staff reported that a woman had scaled a fence, entered the helipad and opened the door of one of the helicopters. The helicopter controls were secured and the woman was not able to start the aircraft, police said.

When officers arrived, the woman had left the helicopter and got into the water off Ogden Point. The woman was illuminated in the water by a second approaching helicopter. Police said she came ashore at the nearby cruise ship terminal and armed herself with a small metal ladder.

Officers were able to get the woman to put down the ladder. She was taken into custody for medical treatment and was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries related to being in the water and scaling the fence. She is now being held for medical treatment.
