A new wildfire is burning near Port Angeles that is visible from Victoria, quickly grew to 50 acres on Saturday.
Thomas Kyle-Milward, with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, says the fire, named the Sutherland fire, ignited around 1 p.m.
It is near Lake Sutherland, southwest of Port Angeles.
Initially, Kyle-Milward said the fire was about five acres (2.02 hectares), but says growth was driven by the powerful westerly winds and it is now 50 acres (20.23 hectares).
Two helicopters with a third on the way, four engines and 20 hand crews are responding to the fire.
