Rain is expected across Vancouver Island throughout the week.

Rain is expected this week across Vancouver Island as subtropical moisture reaches the area.

Forecasts from Environment Canada show rain starting across most of Vancouver Island on Tuesday. Northern Vancouver Island is already seeing wet weather. Haida Gwaii, north of Vancouver Island, is under a wind warning as a strong frontal system approaches the area Monday afternoon.

Ahead of the front, Environment Canada said southeast winds from 80 kilometres to 100 km/h will develop over Haida Gwaii Monday afternoon. The weather agency says in its warning that loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

There are also various marine warnings around Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii.

The National Weather Service Seattle also has rain in the forecast, saying the swath of subtropical moisture will reach western Washington on Wednesday.
