Canada’s second-largest airline is cutting a number of flights to Vancouver Island.
In a recent media release, WestJet says it will be removing 32 routes representing approximately 4,000 weekly flights from its May 5 to June 5 domestic schedule.
The Calgary-based airline’s service reduction includes the removal of six Vancouver Island routes; Vancouver-Comox, Vancouver-Nanaimo, Kelowna-Victoria, Edmonton-Victoria, Edmonton-Comox and Toronto-Victoria.
All transborder and international routes remain suspended until June 4.
“These changes are required to address significantly reduced guest demand during the COVID-19 crisis,” the airline said in a news release.
WestJet will continue to operate daily flights on its Vancouver-Victoria and Calgary-Victoria routes.
They will also continue to operate flights from Nanaimo and Comox to its Calgary hub, although service will be reduced between May 4 and June 7, according to their website.
This comes airline comparator Air Canada announced Tuesday the suspension of all flights to the U.S. for most the next month.
