Western Speedway in Langford has been an institution for Island racing fans and drivers for more than six decades.

Now, the race track is up for sale.

The speedway has been on the market for the last few weeks, but the listing went live for the first time Tuesday morning.

The listing is through CBRE, a Vancouver-based firm.

The property was part of the estate of Vera E. Wille and terms stipulated it must be sold after her death.

The firm managing the Wille family estate told CHEK News the future of the race track depends on the buyers’ intentions.

Langford Mayor Stew Young says property zoning would have to be changed for it to be anything other than a speedway.

Officials say the 2020 season is going ahead regardless of a sale, with opening night scheduled for April 11.
