West Shore RCMP are warning of an online firewood scam that has left at least two people defrauded of their money.

According to police, the victims responded to an ad on Facebook Marketplace and sent money via e-transfer but did not receive the firewood that was supposed to be delivered.

“Investigators are currently working to identify the suspect and we want to warn potential buyers to beware of this scam,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP media relations officer, in a news release Thursday.

“Buying items from a private seller online always carries an element of risk,” added Saggar, urging people to only pay upon delivery or pick up.
