A loaded shotgun stolen from Alberta was recovered by law enforcement in Greater Victoria earlier this month.

On Aug. 27, West Shore RCMP officers were called to the 800-block of Van Isle Way in Langford  to perform a wellness check on a 68-year-old man, who may be in possession of a firearm.

When officers arrived, West Shore RCMP say they found the man inside his vehicle and after a brief search, found a loaded shotgun that had been reported stolen in 2015 from Cold Lake, Alta.

Officers then seized the vehicle, and the shotgun and arrested the 68-year-old man, who was not identified, for possession of property obtained by crime, careless use of a firearm, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

West Shore RCMP say the man was taken to hospital and later released. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 24.
