Police say a reported sexual assault occurred on Oct. 28, 2019 near Sooke and Metchosin roads.

West Shore RCMP say they are investigating after a man allegedly broke into a Colwood home and sexually assaulted a woman.

Police said the reported break-and-enter and sexual assault occurred at a residence near the Sooke Road and Metchosin Road intersection on Wednesday. According to police, the man was not known to the woman.

Police did not provide the specific time the incident happened but said it was during the daylight hours.

Const. Nancy Saggar, media relations officer with West Shore RCMP is in its very early stages and they do not have a suspect description at this time.

“This is very concerning. It’s a serious crime. It’s also unusual. We don’t have any similar reports of this nature.”

Investigators searched the neighbourhood yesterday along with the Police Dog Service. The investigation is being led by the West Shore RCMP Major Crimes Unit.

“We’re going to continue to follow up on investigational leads so you may see an increased police presence in that neighbourhood,” Saggar said.

According to Saggar, the suspect is also unknown to police and when more information is available, they will share it with the public.

Police are also reminding residents to always lock their doors regardless of whether they are home or not.
