The West Shore RCMP have released that a thief attempting to steal mail has been caught.
According to police, they received a call around 12:20 am on Monday, April 6 about a mailbox theft in progress at the community mailbox located at 791 Station Ave in Langford.
The citizen who called witnessed a male break into the mailboxes and flee the scene on foot, said police. West Shore RCMP added the witness was able to offer a good description of the suspect and the direction in which he fled.
Once officers arrived on scene, they were able to track down the suspect “within minutes.” The suspect was identified as a 30-year-old male, who was also breaching court-ordered curfew conditions.
According to authorities, the man was arrested for a variety of offences including, mischief under $5000, theft from the mail, resisting arrest, and failure to comply with conditions.
Officers recovered the stolen mail and it will be returned to Canada Post. We want to say thank you to the good citizen who called police right away, said Cst. Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer West Shore RCMP in a press release issued on Tuesday.
