Police in Langford arrested a 31-year-old man Thursday after receiving a report that he was under the influence of drugs in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

West Shore RCMP said they were called to the parking lot at 1085 Goldstream Ave. at around 7:45 a.m. and upon arrival, found a suspect “well known” to them who had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

“During the course of the arrest, the officer observed and located a black handgun in the suspect’s waistband,” said Const. Alex Bérubé, of West Shore RCMP.

Investigators later determined the gun was stolen.

Joshua Lafleur, 31, was taken to holding cells and has since been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and posssessing a restricted firearm with ammunition.

Lafleur will next appear in court Nov. 9.

West Shore RCMP are asking those with information about the incident to contact them at 250-474-2264.

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that Lafleur had been released on a promise to appear in court. This is incorrect. Lafleur is being held in custody until his next court appearance on Nov. 9.
