West Shore RCMP arrest suspect after reports of man holding handgun in View Royal

A suspect faces charges including possessing a weapon dangerous to the pubic and obstructing a police officer following an incident in View Royal on Thursday.

West Shore RCMP say they received a report of a man holding a handgun near the Thrifty Foods on Admirals Road at around 9:30 p.m.

“Frontline officers located the suspect walking along Admirals Rd and arrested the suspect for possessing a firearm,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar.

“The suspect struggled with police and had to be restrained.”

Following the arrest, RCMP found two black airsoft pistols in the suspect’s possession.

He is believed to be a Vancouver resident.

RCMP say that though airsoft guns are not illegal to purchase in Canada, if they are used in a manner that poses a threat to the public, police will investigate and react accordingly.

They remind people to be aware of their surroundings and public perceptions when handling airsoft guns.
