West Shore RCMP officers have arrested a suspect following a “brazen” daytime theft of a parcel off the front porch of a View Royal residence.

According to West Shore RCMP, the incident took place in the early afternoon of December 21 when a “bold attempt” to steal a package from the porch was caught on the homeowner’s surveillance system.

Following the incident, the homeowner sent the video surveillance footage to the police for examination.

After a brief investigation of the footage, an officer was able to identify the package thief. The information was provided to the West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit who then conducted a search warrant at the suspect’s residence on December 23, arresting her at that time.

29 year-old Barbara Joseph was arrested and charged for Theft of Mail, Fail to Comply with Probation Order and Fail to Comply with Release Order. She remains in custody.

West Shore RCMP continues to remind homeowners to be extra vigilant when it comes to thefts of parcels as each year, as officers say this is a reoccurring theme that can cause a lot of grief, especially during the holiday season.
