A “chronic offender” who was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Victoria, and for allegedly fleeing from West Shore RCMP, was arrested in Metchosin last Wednesday.

On Sept. 4, at around 5:50 a.m., West Shore RCMP received a report of two suspicious people in the Duke Road and Chapel Heights area in Metchosin.

Police said an officer doing patrols in the area then spotted a male “chronic offender” walking along the 4100 block of Metchosin Road.

According to police, the officer recognized the suspect and knew he had an outstanding warrant for arrest out of Victoria. The suspect, 25-year-old Devan Lambert, was also wanted by West Shore RCMP in connection with several other offences.

Lambert was arrested for a warrant of failure to comply with a court order. When he attended court, an additional 12 charges were sworn against him for numerous offences including: possession of stolen property (five counts), possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fleeing from police, driving while prohibited (two counts), driving while suspended.

“The majority of the additional charges are stemming from a recent encounter with police that took place on August 16th, 2019. In August, West Shore RCMP officers spotted Lambert and knew he was wanted for the outstanding warrant listed above. When officers attempted to stop Lambert he fled from police driving dangerously through a red light and into oncoming traffic. During the flight from police, Lambert is alleged to have been driving a vehicle that was stolen from View Royal,” Const. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP media relations officer, said in a statement.

Other charges of possession of stolen property were laid against Lambert in connection to another stolen vehicle. The vehicle was stolen out of Comox and was recovered by West Shore RCMP in May 2019.

Lambert is still in custody.
