The Village of Zeballos says there has been a rash of vandalism directed at their infrastructure in recent months.

A Vancouver Island municipality is asking the public to report acts of vandalism they may witness to the RCMP.

The Village of Zeballos says there has been a rash of vandalism directed at their infrastructure in the past few months, including recent damage to the foreshore washroom and ballpark.

“Most recently, the field at the ballpark has been significantly damaged by an unauthorized vehicle driving recklessly over grass saturated from the storm,” the municipality said in its monthly newsletter.

With less than 110 residents, Zeballos is the smallest municipality by population in British Columbia.

The village says it also has a ” budget to match” its small size and that the recent vandalism has impacted them financially.

“Please know that in these circumstances, unnecessary spending and reallocation of our public works staff is required,” the municipality said.

As a result, The Village of Zeballos is urging residents who witness acts of vandalism or have information about recent vandalism in the community to contact the Port McNeill RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250- 956-4441.
