Vikes introduce Barney Williams as new women’s rowing head coach

WATCH: The University of Victoria Athletics welcomed Barney Williams as the program leader of the Vikes’ women’s rowing team this afternoon.

Williams is a UVIC alumni, who went on to row for Canada at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, where he won a silver medal for his country. After his tenure with the national team, Williams went on to study at Oxford University and rowed for the storied school as well. Williams’ coaching career began at Cornell this past season on an interim basis, and will be taking over the Vikes program that has been lead by Rick Crawley for the past 35 years. Williams says he will be looking to build on the legacy Crawley has build at UVIC, and will be looking to take the program to new heights.
