VIIMCU has launched an investigation into what they're calling a suspicious death after a man was found dead in Otter Point Sunday night.

Vancouver Island’s homicide team has launched an investigation into what they’re calling a suspicious death after a man was found dead in Otter Point Sunday night.

Sooke RCMP and BC Ambulance Service crews were called to a report of a man in need of medical aid in the 8500-block of West Coast Road at 9:45 p.m., BC RCMP said in a statement.

Mounties and paramedics arrived to find the man had died, with investigators soon determining he had likely sustained his injuries in the remote wilderness near Jordan River.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit is now leading the investigation to determine how and why the man died, with help from Sooke RCMP.

“The investigation is still in it’s infancy but police have no information to indicate that there is an ongoing threat or risk to the general public,” BC RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Chris Manseau said in a statement.

Those in the Otter Point area, between Shirley and Sooke, should expect to see increased police presence over the next several days while police continue the investigation.

Anyone with information on the death is asked to call VIIMCU at 250-380-6211.
