WATCH: The 47th running of the Daffodil Cup took place at Western Speedway on Saturday night, as Victoria’s Jeff Montgomery captured his fifth Daffodil Cup win, tying Scott Aumen for the record.

It was a picture-perfect evening for racing at the track, with non-winged sprint cars, throwback cars and dwarf cars all on hand at the event. But the main event was the winged sprint cars, taking part in the historic Daffodil Cup. The cars in this event top out at 800 horsepower and reach speeds of 150 miles per hour. In the final race of the evening, local talent shined through. Early on it was Victoria’s Duane Zeinstra taking the lead, but a yellow flag after a crash completely erased Zeinstra’s lead. Once the pack bunched together, it was another Victoria driver, Jeff Montgomery taking advantage, passing Zeinstra and building up a formidable lead before crossing the finish line in first place, capturing his fifth Daffodil Cup.
