A group of students in Victoria are joining others across Canada in walking out of school Friday in a climate strike.

Twelve-year-old Rebecca Wolf Gage is among the students from Victoria who are calling on climate action from governments at the B.C. legislature.

“I’m on climate strike because I want people to know that my generation cares about the climate crisis. But it seems like your generation may not even know it is a crisis,” Gage said in a statement.

The students held signs and sat on the steps of the legislature, and even got a visit from B.C. Green leader Andrew Weaver.

Students are also rallying in Vancouver and planning to spend the day at the office of the province’s environment minister George Heyman.

The climate strike movement was started by Greta Thunberg in Sweden, who skips Friday classes to sit in front of parliament buildings in Stockholm.

Thunberg has demanded her government treat climate change as a crisis.
