Victoria police officers took a man into custody early Sunday morning wanted for parole violations stemming from a homicide conviction.

A VicPD K9 officer, working with patrol officers, spotted Rourke Desmanche in the 700-block of Pembroke Street just before 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

VicPD says Desmanche made motions suggesting he would run from officers.

But after the K9 officer indicated a police dog would be used should he run, Desmanche surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

In 2013, Desmanche received a 10-year-sentence in the shaking death of his son, Kurious George Rose-Desmanche.

The infant was found unresponsive in a townhouse in London, Ontario in August 2010.

Desmanche was wanted by Corrections Canada in a Canada-wide warrant for allegedly breaching his parole and was last seen in Chilliwack Thursday.

VicPD says Desmanche was held for a court appearance.
