The Victoria Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying any possible suspects responsible for a hate crime that occurred last week.

According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday, October 5 in the 700-block of Pembroke Street.

Officers received a report and attended the area to find that two vehicles had been vandalized with spray paint in an act of mischief that “also had elements of a hate crime,” says VicPD.

Victoria Police emphasize that the nature of the mischief, referring to the targeting and vandalism, meets the standard for investigating the incident as a hate crime.

“Targeting of this nature is against the Criminal Code of Canada and is not welcome in Victoria or Esquimalt,” says the Victoria Police Department.

Investigators are asking for people who were in the area or may have video footage of the 700-block of Princess Avenue or the 700-block of Pembroke Street between 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021, and noon on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, to call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.

To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
