Victoria police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man they say allegedly stalked and sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian or Aboriginal man, 40-years-old, average height with a medium build.

He has short facial hair and wore glasses, a camouflage toque, a grey hat, dark hoodie, black winter jacket and jeans.

The incident was said to have occurred just after 12 p.m. Sunday at the Bay Centre.

Police say the man followed two young girls into a store, waiting until they were alone  — he then allegedly physically and sexually assaulted one of them.

Officials then say he fled and was last seen on foot running northbound on Douglas Street and was seen changing his appearance.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or crime stoppers at 1(800) 222-8477.

Police say the victim did not require treatment at hospital for physical injuries, and is being offered support.

Officers say they are commending her, for her bravery and courage.
