Victoria police say they are seeking a witness who came to the aid of a woman during a sexual assault in the 600-block of Belleville Street Thursday.

Officers were called to a business in the afternoon following a report of a sexual assault in a bathroom, they are looking to speak with a woman witness who was present at that time and who came to the victim’s aid.

Officers were met by security staff when they arrived, but the witness left the scene before officers arrived and is asked to contact VicPD at (250) 995-7654.

One man is in custody following a later incident that may be connected.

Around 10:30 p.m. later in the day VicPD was called to the Bastion Street Parkade for a report that a man was committing an indecent act while following a woman.

That woman’s description of the suspect matched the description from the earlier sexual assault.

Officers found the suspect and took him into custody. The woman in the parkade incident was not physically injured.

Police are recommending charges for the indecent act and the sexual assault investigation is ongoing. The man’s name has not been released at this time.
