The Victoria International Jewish Film Festival kicked off for its seventh year in a row and will show multiple films over the week.

Five feature films will be screening along with three short films and two live webinars with film directors, according to VIJFF. It will have a mixture of in-person screenings at the Vic Theatre at 808 Douglas St. and virtual screenings using the VIJFF’s virtual cinema.

Co-director of the VIJFF Deborah Bricks said the festival wanted to bring Jewish cinema and beyond to Victoria for the festival.

“We really wanted to bring Jewish cinema to Victoria, but we’ve gone beyond just Jewish theme cinema,” said Bricks. “It’s also Jewish-adjacent themes and it’s a great opportunity to bring different communities together. We’re trying to make each event special.”

Snack boxes will be gifted for the in-person films of Neighbours on Oct. 17, and Breaking Bread on Oct. 24. and will feature a range of Middle Eastern and Jewish snacks including Sabich — a sandwich made with fresh pita bread — and Palestinian black hummus.

The festival will run until Oct. 24. Tickets are by donation and are available online with seating limited to 50 per cent capacity.
