Victoria hockey fans go bonkers for Team Kazakhstan

CHEK

WATCH: Everyone loves a good underdog story; especially the Victoria hockey faithful, who have seem to found their home team.

Team Kazakhstan was brought up from the relegation round for the 2019 World Junior Hockey Championship, and came into the tournament with the least experience.

With a small hockey community in their home country, Kazakhstan doesn’t have a hockey empire like the USA, Finland or Sweden, giving the Victoria fans a team to root for instead.

Kazakhstan lost 8-2 to the United States at the Save On Foods Memorial Centre last night, but that didn’t stop the crowd from cheering on the Kazakhs at any chance they could.

The support goes beyond just the cheering; Team Kazakhstan jerseys are now sold out across Victoria, with the entire crowd singing the words to “Sweet Caroline” every time a goal is scored. It’s truly Kazakhstan-mania in Victoria.
