A mattress damaged by an early morning fire at the Cool Aid apartments on Pandora Avenue Thursday.

Although the Cool Aid apartment’s water sprinkler system suppressed much a fire that was sparked overnight, Victoria fire officials say it also caused significant damage in the building.

Victoria fire estimates there was $100,000 damage to the Cool Aid apartments on Pandora Avenue after being called there just after midnight Thursday morning.

Firefighters arrived and found the fire in a fourth-floor suite, which was mostly suppressed by the sprinklers and crew members were able to put the remaining fire out.

Victoria fire says there was minimal damage to the suite from the flames, but the sprinklers caused damage to four suites directly below where the fire started, along with a hallway and a stairwell.

Smoking materials are considered the probable cause of the fire.

Authorities say were no injuries to the occupants.
