Victoria Book Prizes awarded to west coast authors

Aidan Cassie and Kathy Page took home awards at the 16th Annual Victoria Book Prize on Wednesday night.

Local authors based in Salt Spring Island and the west coast took home awards at the 16th Annual Victoria Book Prize Gala on Wednesday night.

Kathy Page, a part-time instructor at Vancouver Island University was awarded the City of Victoria Butler Book Prize for her love story Dear Evelyn.

Aidan Cassie, an author-illustrator based on Salt Spring Island was awarded the Victoria Children’s Book Prize for her children’s story Sterling, Best Dog Ever.

The City of Victoria Butler Book Prize is a partnership between the City of Victoria and Brian Butler of Butler Brothers Supplies.

Mayor Lisa Helps attended the awards gala at the Union Club of British Columbia and along with co-sponsor Brian Butler presented Page with the $5,000 City of Victoria Butler Book Prize.

Victoria Book Prize Society President Alyssa Polinsky presented Cassie with the $5,000 Victoria Children’s Book Prize.

“Congratulations to Kathy and Aidan on winning the 2019 Victoria Book Prizes,” said Mayor Helps. “The talent of our local authors continues to inspire me and is a testimony to how the literary arts enriches our lives and the community.”
