Victoria-area high school student dies of accidental drug overdose

A Grade 11 student who attended Oak Bay High School has died from a suspected drug overdose.

Parents at Oak Bay High School received a letter that Grade 11 student Elliot Eurchuk died of a suspected “unintentional drug overdose” Friday morning.

A Greater Victoria School District Critical Response Team is at Oak Bay High School and will be at the site next week to provide additional counselling support for students. Staff will also be sharing the information and will provide resources to their classes during the first period on Monday.

According to the letter to parents, Eurchuk attended both Oak Bay High School and Mount Douglas Secondary School.

There will be a memorial for Eurchuk later next week.

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed they are in the early stages of an investigation involving the death of a male teenager.
