Pepper the dog is helped off a roof in Esquimalt by VACS Officers

Victoria Animal Control Services (VACS) took part in an unusual rescue on Friday morning.

According to a Facebook post on the Township of Esquimalt Facebook page, VACS officers were called around 10:30 a.m. to a report of a distressed dog on Lyall Street in Esquimalt.

Upon arrival they found “Pepper,” a Shepherd/Husky mix, had broken through the screen of a second-floor window and was trapped on the roof of the house.

According to VACS, Pepper’s owner was at work and the dog was known to suffer from significant anxiety when home alone.

VACS officers borrowed a ladder from a neighbour and were able to reach Pepper. The dog allowed herself to be put on a leash, and immediately climbed onto the officer on the ladder to be carried down.

Pepper’s owner arrived a short time later.

VACS said that the dog and all parties concerned were in “good shape” and credited the officers and the concerned neighbour for their “quick actions.”
