If you thought it was a wet September on Vancouver Island, you were right.

On Tuesday, Environment Canada put out the B.C. rainfall statistics for last month. At the Victoria International Airport, the rainfall total was 69.6 millimetres, more than double the usual amount of 31.1 millimetres. Nanaimo had 71.8 mm of rainfall compared to the normal amount of 35.8 mm. Comox recorded 68.2 mm of rain compared to the usual amount of 45 millimetres.

On average, Victoria sees around seven days of rain in September. This year, there were 15 days of rain. Nanaimo, which has an average of eight days, also saw 15 days of rain this September. Comox, which has an average of nine days, saw 16 days of rain.

But while it was a rainy month, Matt MacDonald, warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada, said no records were broken. The wettest September on record at the Victoria was in 2013 when 119 mm of rain fell. Nanaimo also broke the record in 2013 with 142 mm of rainfall. Victoria Gonzales’ record is 102 mm in 1905.

More rain is in the forecast across Vancouver Island for the first week of October.
