Victoria police officers seized a replica gun from a man early Friday morning after receiving calls from the staff of a residential building.

VicPD patrol officers were called to the multi-unit residential building in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street just before 2:30 a.m. Friday morning after receiving a report of a man with a firearm.

According to the police, the caller reported that staff had gone to the man’s unit to speak with him about a guest in his suite who was not allowed to be there.

During the conversation, police say the man brought out a handgun but did not point it or threaten staff with it.

Staff only called the authorities out of an abundance of caution.

VicPD says several patrol officers arrived and spoke with the man about the situation.

A replica firearm and a flare were found and seized by police. The resident was briefly taken into custody but was later released without any further incident.
