Victoria Police are seeking public help in identifying a man who allegedly attempted to break into a business before firing an apparent handgun into the air.

On Thursday, Dec. 15, around 11 p.m., a man was caught on CCTV camera attempting to break into a business in the 1900-block of Foul Bay Road, according to police.

“Finding the business closed and the front door locked, the man began banging on the door before firing what appeared to be a handgun into the air,” VicPD said in a release Friday.

The man, who subsequently fled on foot, is believed to be between 20 to 30 years old, standing at approximately 6’0″ with short brown hair and brown facial stubble.

He was wearing a navy blue t-shirt, black pants and grey and blue sneakers, with a t-shirt around his head, at the time of the incident.

Investigators say they’ve been unable to determine if the handgun was an actual firearm, a pellet gun or a replica.

Anyone who was in the area between 10:40 p.m. and 11 p.m. and saw the man photographed is asked to call VicPD’s report desk at 250-995-7654 extension 1.
