Victoria police say charges related to child exploitation are being recommended against a 42-year-old man from Esquimalt following the execution of a search warrant last week.

VicPD’s child exploitation investigator identified the suspect in March of 2017 as someone who was allegedly sharing child sexual abuse videos.

Police say the extremely graphic videos were determined to meet the definition of child pornography and a search warrant was obtained after investigators determined where the computer user was located.

Officers from the Special Victims Unit, Community Services Division, Integrated Crimes Unit, Forensic Identification Section and major crimes detectives executed the search warrant on Dec. 5.

Police say 42 exhibits were seized and the majority will be forensically examined in the coming weeks.

Possession of child pornography and making available child pornography are charges being recommended by police against the man, who has not been identified.

The suspect was released on a promise to appear in court with several conditions.

VicPD says you can report online sexual exploitation of children, or get support and referral services online for internet safety at www.cybertip.ca.
