VicPD is launching an arson investigation after a suspicious fire in Esquimalt on Thursday evening. The flames were spotted around 7:30 p.m. in building materials behind a dumpster in front of a construction-related business in the 900-block of Devonshire Road. Firefighters managed to quickly knock down the fire but they deemed it to be suspicious and called in police. “It doesn’t appear there was any extensive damage to the structure,” said Acting Sgt. Jeff Mason of Victoria Police. “The fire department did advise us that they believe the fire was suspicious in nature, at this time we consider it to be an arson investigation.” Investigators are asking anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area on Thursday evening to contact them. There has been a string a suspicious fires set in Victoria and Saanich over the past few weeks.
