VicPD’s Crime Reduction Unit decided to use a Bait Bike to try nab bicycle thieves in the downtown core this week.

It took only six minutes for the plan to work.

On Thursday around 12:46, the Bait Bike was deployed in the 1800-block of Johnson Street.

By 12:52 it was gone.

Officers were able to track the bike down to the 800-block of Johnson Street where it was recovered and a man was arrested shortly after.

The suspect already had a warrant for his arrest on a separate matter and was held in custody overnight.

He faces several charges including theft under $5000.

The bait bike program was adopted by VicPD late last year.
