VicPD say a man was arrested on Nov. 11, 2020, after an assault with a weapon.

Victoria police say they arrested a man Wednesday afternoon after he reportedly assaulted another man with a wooden stick.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on Nov. 11, officers were called to the 400-block of Swift Street after a man allegedly struck another man repeatedly with a wooden stick.

Police said when officers arrived, they learned that the attack was unprovoked and that the suspect and the victim were unknown to one another.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.

Police said the suspect had left the scene prior to police arrival, but witnesses in the area provided officers with a description and direction of travel.

Officers located the suspect a short distance away from the scene and took him into custody without incident, according to VicPD.

The suspect was transported to cells and held for court, police said. Victoria police are recommending charges of assault with a weapon, two counts of breach of probation, and one count of breach of a release order.

The suspect’s name has not been released at this time.
