Strong winds push across Vancouver Island during a storm, Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021.

Residents living in northern Vancouver Island should prepare for blustery winds this Christmas weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the province’s central coast and the northern tip of the Island, where wind gusts are expected to reach 90 to 110 km/h starting Saturday evening.

The winds are expected to last through the night until Sunday afternoon. Environment Canada adds that Christmas could be turbulent on the North Island this year.

“A series of very strong storms is forecast for the next few days with potential for even stronger winds Monday through Wednesday,” said Environment Canada in its warning Saturday morning.

“Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.”
