Two people were nearly hit by a Mercedes-Benz sedan after it smashed through the front entrance glass of a Victoria pharmacy on Friday evening.

The crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. at the Hillside Pharmasave, near Hillside Mall, and caused significant damage to the building and the inside of the store — with many shopping products lying on the ground, and some aisle shelves damaged.

The Victoria Police Department says it was a single-vehicle event, with a lone occupant inside the car. The Mercedes had minimal damage, but police say the situation could have been much worse.

“There were two people who were directly in front of the vehicle as it made its entrance into the store. They were somehow able to get out of the way, and thankfully no one else was injured,” VicPD Const. Chris Van Sweten told CHEK News.

The investigation is still early and ongoing. VicPD says they are looking at whether the crash was a case of human error or a possible medical event.

The driver of the vehicle refused medical attention and was taken home by family.
