Adults on Vancouver Island, aged 18 and older, are now eligible to get their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine without an appointment.

Island Health mass immunization clinics are now accepting walk-ins across Vancouver Island, providing doses for a limited number each day.

With vaccine supply increasing, Island Health says that in addition to walk-ins, it is expanding the number of daily appointments available for bookings as well.

In a release issued Friday, the health authority suggests that the “availability of walk-in appointments is dependent on the daily vaccine supply available at each clinic.”

Online registration and booking through the Get Vaccinated system is still available and Vancouver Islanders can head to the B.C. government website for more information.

Island Health emphasizes that walk-in appointments are for adults aged 18 and older and are only for first doses at this time.

“People in need of a second dose must book an appointment through the provincial Get Vaccinated booking system,” says Island Health.

The same goes for youth ages 12-17 as they can book an appointment for first dose immunization online or over the phone. Youth are also able to accompany a sibling or adult to their scheduled appointment.
