A Vancouver Island man is a lot richer these days after winning a large sum of money playing online slots.

Brentwood Bay resident Pena Elliot was playing MegaJackpots Siberian Storm online slots on late last month when he ended up hitting the jackpot, according to a recent British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) press release.

“I was on one of my last spins before I was about to quit playing,” Elliot said in the release.

Fortunately for Elliot, he didn’t quit.

“I remembered the rules of Siberian Storm and saw the five icons go across, and I thought that I had won the jackpot. So I clicked ‘continue’ and noticed the jackpot had reset,” he said. “That’s when I was pretty sure that I actually hit the jackpot.”

Elliot ended up winning a head-spinning $600,360.73. But just to be sure he actually won, Elliot says he called BCLC’s customer support line to confirm his huge haul.

“Once they figured out what was going on, they called me back and said ‘congratulations,'” he said, adding. “It’s still unreal. I’m just so grateful, and this means less stress for me.”

The Brentwood Bay man says he wants to put his winnings to good use by helping his close family members and building a home.

“I’d like to build it on one of the islands,” he said. “I’ve always planned on building as green as possible, with solar panels and everything.”

The BCLC says MegaJackpots is a “progressive jackpot network” that is linked across multiple slot games online and has a progressive jackpot that grows as more people place bets across other participating Canadian jurisdictions.
