Vancouver Island filmmaker missing for about a week, police say

RCMP say they are looking for a 37-year-old Vancouver Island woman who has been missing for about a week.

According to Port McNeill RCMP, Twyla Roscovich was reported missing on Sept. 12.

Roscovich was last seen on the morning of Sept. 6, when she left Sointula for medical treatment. Police say she was last confirmed to be in the Campbell River or Quadra Island area on Sept. 7 and 8.

Port McNeill RCMP say Roscovich sent a text message that she would possibly be going to Nanaimo and she would be camping in her car, which is a green Volvo estate with the plates BCL EJ393W. However, her family has posted on Facebook that her car has been found in Campbell River near the Quadra Ferry while Roscovich remains missing.

Alexandra Morton, Roscovich’s friend and the subject of Roscovich’s documentary “Salmon Confidential,” said the news is devastating. She describes Roscovich has a phenomenal filmmaker with an enormous heart.

“Twyla is an incredibly capable person in the bush. If she just decided to take off and take some time to herself, she certainly knows how to do that, she’s done it before, but it just seems she would have left a message with somebody,” Morton said.

“So I guess the concern is that maybe she just did take off for a bit and has run into problems. So I’m grateful to everybody out there looking for her, and she, of course, is enormously loved and we’re really frightened.”

Morton said Roscovich has a daughter who is safe with her father and Morton is thankful that many people are looking for the missing woman. Morton is asking anyone who has seen Roscovich to please speak up.

“Even if she’s asked you not to, and she just wanted to get away for a while, you’ve got to now, because it’s just been too long,” Morton said.

“Every time I hear a text from my phone, I’m hoping it’s her.”

Roscovich is described as 5’9,” with brown hair and blue eyes. Her Facebook page says she is a filmmaker and producer.

Anyone with information on Roscovich’s whereabouts is asked to call their local police station or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-8477.
