Cyclists and pedestrians of the Galloping Goose Trail will be taking a detour this weekend as work continues at the McKenzie interchange project in Saanich.

The provincial transportation ministry says the change of route will be from Grange Road to Belgrave Road and the route will be posted and monitored by the contractor throughout the weekend.

The government says the detour was scheduled over the weekend to limit as many people as possible as many use it for their weekday commute.

In preparation for a retaining wall to be constructed and to reinforce the pathway foundation, a rock-scaling operation will be completed along this particular section of the trail.

Signage along the trail has been up notifying users of the detour since March 9.
