BC Ferries tells CHEK News that the crew of the Spirit of Vancouver Island rescued six people Sunday off the coast of Mayne Island.
The Canadian Coast Guard contacted the BC Ferries vessel around 10 a.m. on August 27.
A small runabout was sinking off the coast of Mayne Island, resulting in four people in the water.
Two kayakers initially stepped in to help but got swamped, resulting in a total of six people in the water.
Officials say there were no injuries despite the extremely cold temperature of the water.
The Spirit of Vancouver Island was delayed for 20 minutes as a result of the rescue.
