UPDATE: The B.C. Coroners’ Service has confirmed it has been notified and is investigating after a cement truck plunged 25-metres down an embankment Monday.

The coroner says there are no other details to release at this time.

Campbell River RCMP says it received a 911 call at 10:48 a.m. Monday to say that a large truck had careened off Westmin Road.

The collision occurred south of Lupin Falls and the truck ended up in Buttle Lake.

Westmin Road runs south of Buttle Narrows on Highway 28, between Campbell River and Gold River.

Police say it is unknown at this time what the cause of the crash was or how many people were in the truck.

Campbell River Search and Rescue was called in to assist with a boat so investigators could get a better look inside the cab, which was upside down in the lake near the shoreline. The rest of the truck was completely submerged.

This is a developing story. Please check back for more details.
