Nanaimo RCMP say a pair allegedly stole a 75-inch TV from Walmart and balanced the box on top of the car to get away.

When planning to bring home a large purchase, typically you’d want to make sure your vehicle is big enough to transport it. But that isn’t the route that two alleged thieves in Nanaimo took.

On June 8, around 6:45 p.m., a pair allegedly stole a 75-inch TV from the Walmart in the Woodgrove Centre, according to Nanaimo RCMP.

The TV was too large to fit in the car, so it was placed on top of the roof. The driver then held on to the TV with their left hand, and the passenger held on with their right hand.

The officer who responded to the call of the theft was able to determine the vehicle plate and the clothing that was worn by the suspects.

Three hours later, the pair were found at a gas station in Nanaimo and the 48-year-old man and 43-year-old woman were arrested for theft under $5,000.

Parts from the TV were found in the trunk of the vehicle, but the TV itself has not been found.

The pair were released on an undertaking and have a court appearance is set for Sept. 6 in Nanaimo Provincial Court.
