Nanaimo RCMP are missing their stuffed animal bear-y much.
In September 2018, Nanaimo RCMP sent Bear on a road trip, hoping members of the public would help Bear reach his goal to dip his paws in the frigid waters off the coast of Newfoundland.
His first stop was Chilliwack, home of the Mounties’ Pacific Regional Training Centre, but after that trip, people who saw Bear on the side of the road, in a coffee shop or in an airport were asked to take him along on their travels.
Bear had signage sewn into his fur to let the public know about his trip and how they could send photos to the Nanaimo RCMP through Facebook, Twitter or an email.
The last Nanaimo RCMP heard Bear was dropped off at a restaurant at the Coast Hotel in Williams Lake. Hotel staff recall seeing Bear but do not know what happened to him.
There have been no further sightings of the cuddly creature but Const. Gary O’Brien, media relations officer for the Nanaimo RCMP, said there are unconfirmed reports Bear negotiated his way onboard a fishing boat and is catching King crab off the coast of Alaska. There was another unconfirmed report Bear is now teaching yoga in the Nepal rainforest.
With limited resources and available manpower, we were unable to follow up on these accounts. Our investigators are confident, however, that Bear is in good health and that he is being cared for
, O’Brien said in a statement.
