The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a medical emergency on a cruise ship near Port Angeles Thursday night.

The U.S. Coast Guard posted a video online of a medivac rescue near Port Angeles involving a cruise ship that had just left Victoria Thursday night.

Dramatic coast guard footage shows the hoist of a 67-year-old woman, who had symptoms of a heart attack, off the Ovation of the Seas, 22 kilometres west of Port Angeles.

The ship left Victoria harbour for Seattle at 6 p.m.

The ship’s captain called about the medical emergency two-and-a-half hours later and the coast guard aircrew arrived just after 9 p.m.

The patient was transferred to a waiting aircrew at a hospital in Port Angeles and then flown to Seattle for further care.

The coast guard did not provide an update on the condition of the woman.
